Wat houdt dat "adopteren" eigelijk in??
Ben er wel in geinteresseerd
"Hier liggen hun lijken als zaden in 't zand, hoop op den oogst o vlaanderland"
30th Infantry Division verzamelaar.

355th Infantry Regiment, 89th Infantry Division, Company M, Second Platoon.
All of us were terribly tired when we pushed on the morning of april 11. several towns were taken that day, among them dornheim, alkersleben, elxleben an torndorf. resistance was very sporadic, although 13 prisoners were taken. about all the attack amounted to was a long and hard march. that night we billeted in three small villages hoping at last for a good night sleep. our hopes were again shortlived. constant reports told of a concentration of tanks and enemy forces on our right flank and an anticipated attack at any time. as a result at least half of the battalion was on outpost during the night. the expected counter-attack did not materialize.
the next morning (april 12) we pressed our drive to the east through a wooded section bearing southwardly to clean out an enemy pocket. I was on the left, K on the right ans L in reserve with elements of M company attached to attacking companies. intelligence reports indicated a concentration camp in the woods which I company found empty.
K company's leading platoon surprised three enemy soldiers preparing to dynamite a bridge leading into tannroda. 2 escaped the third was captured an d capt. brown gave him the choice of removing the demolition from the bridge or being shot. a 1000 pound aerial bomb was speedily removed.
a temporary battalion cp was set up in tannroda and the town cleared by K and L. a volksturm warehouse containing many rifles and burp guns and cans of jam was found. the kraut jam tasted good on K ration crackers.
because of the dense forest radio communication was inadequate and contact with I was poor. about noon a messenger from HMGplatoon attached to I reported that they had run into enemy infantry supported by tanks and in the skirmish had lost 4 M company and one I company jeep. due to inaccurate map directions we were unable to send aid.
actually I attacking through the woods encoutered a road block. the foor elements had no difficulty by passing it but the jeeps were turned south looking for a road. the map showed a road that could be utilized to by pass the block. actually the road marked our right boundary and the 354th infatry attacking on our right at least 2 miles behind us. the krauts allowed 5 jeeos to turn on to the road and then opened up with MGfire. only one man, an M company driver was hit. he was killed instantly. the rest of the men were able to scramble from their vehicles and take cover in the woods.
