UPDATED - Monday November 08, 2004 11:24am
LONDON (AP) - Families of British and Commonwealth soldiers who fought in World War I will be able to trace their relatives' war records through a Web site launched Monday.
The National Archives site lists the records of more than 5 million men and women of the Army and Royal Flying Corps who won service medals during the war. Members of the Royal Navy are not included in the register.
Anyone who served in the war received at least one campaign medal. Officials said the Web site index provided the most comprehensive list of World War I military service.
Former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, war poet Wilfred Owen and the then future King Edward VIII are among the famous included on the index.
