The 44th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized) was activated at Camp Young, Calif., Dec. 23, 1943. From the N.Y. Port of Embarkation on Sept. 29, 1944, the 44th left for England, arriving there on Oct. 10, 1944. Landing in France Nov. 26, 1944, the 44th was a part of the 11th Cavalry Group (Mechanized), XIII Corps, Ninth Army until V-E Day.
Campaign Honors: RHINELAND CAMPAIGN; CENTRAL EUROPEAN CAMPAIGN
The 44th arrived back at the N.Y. Port of Embarkation Aug. 2, 1945. From there the 44th traveled to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, where it was deactivated, Sept. 29, 1945.
