Mensen,
Ik ben op zoek naar naslagwerk (oa boeken) over deze jongens. Buiten de officiele site is er via google weinig of niets over te vinden. Er is geen enkele missie terug te vinden alleen heel cryptisch over hoe veel ze betekend hebben en wat ze gedaan hebben. Heel algemeen dus.
De tuskegee Airmen waren Afro Amerikaanse piloten en grondpersoneel tijdens WO2 dus zover was ik ook al weer.

Inderdaad boeiende materie vooral omdat ze na de oorlog terug in de segregatie van de VS terecht kwamen. Het heeft tot aan de legislatuur van Bill Clinton geduurd voor ze de herkenning kregen die hen toebehoorde. Dus zo lang is dat ook nog niet geleden.omgitsme schreef:Interessant onderwerp trouwens.
Blijkbaar is eind jaren dertig een gans project opgezet ( Tuskegee) om eerst en vooral te kijken of die bruin getinte jongens hoegenaamd wel geschikt waren (lees intelligent genoeg) om een vliegtuig te besturen. Ben zelf meer een vliegtuigfanaat als het op WO2 aankomt (heb een 200-tal boeken over dit onderwerp) maar over hen geen woord.
Uiteraard kan ik onmiddellijk E-bay afschuimen maar dan heeft dit forum ook geen zin meer hé

Ik weet niet of je History Channel hebt? Daar is al een paar keer Dogfights op geweest ook een aflevering over de Tuskegee Airmen. Heb het opgenomen en staat er nog op als het goed is.

My name is Craig Huntly. I am the Historian for the Tuskegee Airmen Inc. Los Angeles Chapter. Your e-mail was forwarded to me by the TAI National Public Relations Officer for investigation and response which is provided below.
No Tuskegee Airmen from the 332nd FG crashed in the Netherlands during WWII. During May, 1944, the 332nd Fighter Group was still flying the Bell P-39 Air cobra out of Capodichino Air Base, Naples Italy on Harbor and Coastal patrol missions during that time. The 332nd FG did not begin flying P-51’s on bomber escort missions until July, 1944. Only Fighter Groups of the 8th and 9th Air Forces flying out of England would have over flown The Netherlands in P-51’s during that time.
